Full vs. Partial Overlay Cabinets

Full-overlay cabinets feature larger doors that cover nearly the entire cabinet front, creating a clean, modern, higher end appearance. Partial-overlay cabinets have smaller doors that leave part of the cabinet frame visible, resulting in a more traditional look. Cabinets with full overlay doors have minimal clearance between the doors/drawers and cabinet edges. If a cabinet is positioned next to a wall or other surface (e.g. refrigerator panel), we recommend adding at least 1/4" additional clearance to allow doors and drawers operate smoothly. While 1/4" is the minimum recommended, some applications may require a greater clearance depending on hardware and other project requirements.

When choosing between full and partial overlay cabinets, consider both aesthetics and practicality. Generally full overlay cabinet provide superior aesthetics and functionality while partial overlay cabinets maybe easier in installation.
