The year 2020 was one that saw quite a lot of renovation, and more and more homeowners chose intriguing designs to make their home look, well… homey. Some of these designs were there for a long time, with timeless popularity that one could not ignore Others were a bit more recent – but with a beauty that made every kitchen look modern. Here is what most people focused on adding to their kitchen this past year.
Calacatta Marble
Carrara’s fancier sibling, calacatta marble has bolder veins that lead to a more pronounced graphic appeal. It is used in both warm and cool tones, and it gives off a certain elegance that is hard to match. People used calacatta marble not only for the countertops but also for the backsplash – giving the kitchens a higher level of style and elegance.
Simplicity and Minimalism
Multiple decorations and highly detailed kitchen designs are a thing of the past and looking back at average 2020 kitchen designs, it shows that simplicity has become the highest power. More and more people are opting for sleek minimalist designs as a way to detach from the cluttered look of a highly decorated kitchen. Flat shaker cabinets came back in style, and people are opting for more multifunctional gadgets that save space and are practical at the same time.
Unconventional Materials
2020 was also the year of experimentation, which is why more and more people played with using unconventional materials for their new kitchen design. For example, some individuals chose to go for brass backsplashes, to add a certain sense of industrial style to the kitchens. Others went for cabinets wrapped in leather, to give the kitchen a cozy or a bachelor-like look. “Special” is the key here, particularly when you want to have a unique kitchen.
Cool Colors
In the years before, people would opt for warm colors as they gave off a cozy feeling whenever you entered the kitchen. Still, nowadays, more and more people are going for cool-toned kitchens that offer a vibe of beauty and simplicity. It makes the kitchen seem less cluttered when you mix colors such as white and blue, for example. Despite this trend, people also added small warm notes in the design – such as bronze light fixtures and kitchen hardware – so that the kitchen did not look too sterile.
Cerused Wood
Cerused wood also saw a rise in popularity this past year, as more and more people began adding it to their new kitchen design. Cerused wood is a type of wood that has been painted a certain color while allowing its natural grain to shine through. Tonal, natural furniture designs are all the rage nowadays, as they give a taste of detail without actually making things too obvious. It adds uniqueness while retaining simplicity.
Brick Details
People are getting once more a taste of traditionalism, which is why they are adding brick details into their kitchen designs. Most individuals go for actual brick for their backsplashes, making the kitchen feel nice and refined. On the other hand, some people that felt actual brick is hard to clean opted for brick-shaped tiles instead. This was great for practical people because it kept the brick look while maintaining functionality.
Double Islands
As people were spending more and more time in the kitchen, they needed to increase its functionality while maintaining the traffic flow. At some point, it becomes clear that just one kitchen island is not enough anymore, which is why more and more people went with double island designs. One would have a sink and other tools for food preparation, whereas the other was strictly for dining and preparing meals. Plus, if dual sinks are installed this way, cleaning the kitchen becomes even more of a breeze.
